Newborn must have products and best buys for twins

First of all, apologies from this absentee blogger but I have only gone and delivered not one but two babies. Yes, TWINS!!! Apart from being a full time software developer and a part time blogger, I am now also mum to a little boy and a girl, my Twinderfuls (that’s what they will be called in the blogosphere) 🙂

I would love to introduce a new category on my blog dedicated to this new twin mama life. Of course, there will be travel and London related posts too but now with an additional element of having two babies in tow.

So, in this first “Twin Mum Life” post, I wanted to share our newborn must have products and the most used baby items for my twins in 0-3 months age. On second thought, these would most likely be my most used products even with a single baby.

When it came to buying baby products, our experienced friends told us not to go overboard. Great advice, which we stuck to for most part. And then there were desperate times when we tried anything and everything that would help us deal with the problem at hand.

With so many products in the market being touted as must-haves, here’s our list of top 7 must-have products for newborn babies followed by a round up of everything we used that made transitioning and then maintaining our day to day life much easier, specially with twins.

Our Top 7 Newborn Must Have Products

Sleepyhead – We were in two minds if we really needed to buy two sleepyheads. After all, it’s a pricey item! But when we brought the babies home they looked so small in their big cotbeds that we instantly felt the need to buy Sleepyheads so they remained snug and secure. They also come super handy when moving from room to room and keeping babies safe on any surface be it our sofa or our bed. It’s a luxury item without a doubt but one we have used a LOT!

Ubbi Nappy bin – The jury is divided on this one. Do you really need a fancy nappy bin? I would say, for twins and the number of nappies that we throw on a daily basis, it’s worth the money. We love this nappy bin because of its size, its ability to lock smells in and the fact that any common bin liners can be used in it. It does not need any specific bin liner cassettes.

Angelcare Bath Support Seat – Bathing a newborn baby was something I was most scared about before delivery. Holding a baby when wet and slippery and giving them a bath is not easy! This bath seat makes it so much convenient and takes the fear out of my mind thus allowing me to actually enjoy bath time with my babies.

Braun Thermoscan Thermometer – This thermometer is very fast and easy to use, a feature you need while taking temperatures of a fussy baby down with fever. It’s suitable for all ages which makes it worth the investment. We just need to select the correct age and place the probe in the ear for a quick reading. Disposable probe covers available here.

MAM Self Sterilisng Bottles – I am combi-feeding my babies and needed bottles from the start for both formula and expressed milk. We use the Mam anti-colic bottles for the simplest reason that they are self sterilising in the microwave. We didn’t need to buy a separate steriliser.

Etta Loves Sensory Playmat – We liked this playmat as it is big enough for two babies and we use Ikea Leka activity gym with it. It‘s reversible and is designed to support baby’s development using sensory patterns. Machine washable, it can be rolled into a bundle that’s easy to carry which can come handy for picnics, taking to the beach, travelling and when visiting someone’s home.

Muslins – Multipurpose and versatile. Depending on the size we use them for swaddling, wiping milk off baby’s face, covering myself during breastfeeding, in place of blanket when it’s not too cold, the list goes on. For really cute prints and great quality, we recommend Aden & Anais and Bumble Baby Boutique.
