Interior Inspiration: 5 Ways of using Ceramics in Home Decor

Using Ceramics in Home Decor

I have a bit of a love affair with ceramics when it comes to home decor. The variety of shapes and textures that they come in, not forgetting the myriad colours and patterns, means that there is so much to play with. Here are 5 ways of using ceramics in home decor.

Vase

Take one look at my Instagram feed and you’d know that I completely believe in flower-power. If I see fresh flowers when I walk into the house after the day’s work, my mood simply cheers up. I have a ceramic vase in mustard and purple colour combination which looks great with simple white flowers. It can be used on its own too and adds a beautiful pop of colour. A fantastic alternative is to use a neutral, modern and elegant pitcher like the one from Whichford Pottery as a vase to hold beautiful vibrant blooms. Such a lovely contrast!

Wall Art

I had no clue what I’d do with them when I saw the painted ceramic tiles in Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar market but I knew I wanted to use them in some shape or form in my home. After struggling to find the best way to use them I finally had the idea of framing them in sleek gold frames and hanging up on the wall to create a focal point for the dining area. Tableware

The most obvious place to use ceramics in home would be tableware, I suppose. I like using serveware in pastel or neutral colours and plain white dinner plates with a little texture. The minimalist and classy designs ensure that the food is displayed at its best and is the star of the show. Not only are they versatile but easy to coordinate if you are going for a theme. I tend to buy them in either porcelain or fine bone china because that makes them light-weight and of course, they MUST be dishwasher safe!

Drawer Knobs

We all love shopping at IKEA for their brilliant designs and affordable prices but it does come with a disadvantage. Chances are that people you know also have the exact same stuff! So, how do you add your own unique stamp and style to mass-produced furniture? Considering my DIY skills are not worth a mention at all, giving the furniture a lick of paint is asking a bit too much from me. However, I am good at finding pretty drawer knobs and that’s enough to jazz up my side table or the guest daybed 😉

Planters

The trend of indoor plants is huge and one that’s here to stay. Don’t we all agree that a little bit of greenery is good for the soul? Houseplants serve a dual purpose by purifying the air and livening up the space. If you are not green-fingered (don’t worry – I’m with you on it), succulents and fake plants are your best mates. I love the variety of ceramic plant pots that are available thus making it very easy to play with colour accents, textures and patterns in my own style. I adore this plant pot with pastel pink ceramic bowl and wooden legs that I grabbed as soon as I laid my eyes on it.
